Whether watching ants crawl across the sidewalk, holding a white tailed hawk, trailing through the wilds to watch baboons, or spending hours scuba diving in the underwater kingdom, Mrs. Harris has had many wonder-filled, inspiring opportunities that have greatly impacted and contributed to her love of creation, nature, and its creatures.
These adventures began while she earned a B.S. in Biology from A&M Corpus Christi. Through her college years she assisted university research in the Microbiology lab, worked with graduate students in the Center for Coastal Studies, interned with the Bird Department at the Texas State Aquarium, volunteered at the Amos Rehabilitation Keep and with the TMMSN. Upon graduation, Mrs. Harris flew overseas to work as a missionary for SIM in Ethiopia. In Addis Ababa she primarily worked with the families of children sponsored by SIM and helped teach English to the native workers. Several months later she began working in San Antonio at Sea World as the Assistant Lead Diver/Zoologist with the Aquarium Department.
Following several years of swimming with sharks and sting rays, Mrs. Harris began teaching Chemistry at a local high school. She taught for several years and then became a stay at home mom when her firstborn arrived. She is now mother to two adorable, precocious, spirited Great Hearts Students, and feels that her greatest lesson in how to be a great teacher is from teaching her own kiddos. She loves going for walks in the woods, reading mystery novels by the ocean, playing violin with her church band, and playing games with friends. She adores seasons, cold weather, and traveling adventures with her family.
